Political Humor Health Care Reform

I know everyone else is focused on the healthcare reform bill showdown this weekend and suddenly all my posts are “gay this” and “equality that.” Also, this is old news. Nevertheless, my attention is on equality rather than healthcare reform right now.

  1. Funny, this issue seems to keep popping up in my life too (even though as you say, this particular story is “old news”). While I would hardly consider myself an activist on the subject, reconnecting with a dear old classmate (ya gotta love the Facebook) who has been living openly with her girl for years now has brought the issue close to home. And I just can’t seem to get fired up against it…not being a deep thinker, the best I can explain my feelings on the subject is, it’s no skin off my bottom if two people of the same sex want to get married. In fact I find it hard to understand how creating stable familial units regardless of their make-up can be bad for society.

You’ve spoken more passionately on the subject than anyone else I’ve read – and by that I mean with true, heartfelt emotion, not rhetoric.

As to confusing children, as the one gentleman states, my feeling is children are the least likely to be confused by the concept of same-sex marriage. Now, as in all matters relating to adult relationships, I don’t feel the need to address it until my kids become aware of it, at which point I’ll explain it in age appropriate terms. But I’d betcha a coke if I told my 8 year old that some grown up women prefer to be married other grown up women, she’d be like “Okay.”

Seriousness aside…that vid is too funny! “without irony”. I do love the Daily Show (for the most part). Besides, didn’t you know that opposition to mixed race marriage is waaaay different from opposition to same-sex marriage? Why? Well….because it just is…

Lord, I do get wordy on Friday nights.

    1. Amy,

I’m so glad you shared your reaction! And thank you for your kind praise. I make an effort to see people with love and to look for our most profound levels of agreement. I’m glad to find out when this resonates with someone and touches them.

      Cynthia
