UPDATED 'Never gonna give you up'

I love expressions of devotion — “Never gonna give you up” from 1987 by Rick Astley is so joyful and profound at the same time. I guess putting my attention on marriage equality makes me think, “What a perfect song to play at a wedding!” You know, when we can have them.

Update, 3/22/2010, Sun.: Well, this is embarrassing. I am only vaguely aware of the prank of rickrolling — claiming a link is relevant and awesome but instead goes to a video of Rick Astley singing, “Never gonna give you up” — and I totally forgot its connection to this song. Dang. Well, on the bright side, over at Ace of Spades HQ I see there’s a new rickroll video on the rise and I SWEAR my link takes you there. I wonder how long before there’s a “Trololo” man  and “Downfall” mash-up?  Or “Trololo” man starts appearing in news footage to help Robert Gibbs sell the latest “unexpected” statistics charting Obama’s destruction of the American economy?

  1. I’d never heard of rickrolling, but I’m certainly a fan Rick Astley. I too find this song just a joyous celebration of love. I freely admit that we prefer the music of our youth to any other music, but, honestly, the whiny, self-indulgent stuff my kids listen to today is so different from the straightforward expressions of love and happiness that we heard in 70s and 80s pop songs. We may have been manic, but the kids are depressives.
