Obama's SOTU — 'PIVOT'

I live-blogged Obama’s State of the Union speech at Newsreal and began my coverage with this clip from “Friends” featuring the word, “Pivot!” The predictions for the SOTU speech were that Obama would use it to pivot toward the center. He didn’t, but I like the clip so much I’m keeping it. He did say a few things that conservatives approve of — we need more nuclear power and off-shore drilling were my favorites — but since his words have no connection to his actions, I had the impression that his real motive for saying them was, “Made you clap!”

Oh, Obama called on Congress to repeal “don’t ask, don’t tell.” He did NOT call on Eric Holder, his attorney general, to stop filing scorched-earth amicus briefs opposing every aspect of equality for homosexuals. Also, he did not set a deadline for the repeal of “don’t ask, don’t tell.” It may just be that the campaign by a few gay and lesbian bloggers to get gays and lesbians to stop donating money to the Democrats until they get DADT and DOMA repealed is inflicting enough pain for Obama to test whether they will start donating again based on his recycling the promises he made in October to the Human Rights Campaign, shortly before Holder filed one of the above-mentioned briefs.

Frank Luntz’s focus group on Fox: “I think he’s mediocre and delusional,” “He’s the best conservationist in America because he keeps re-cycling his campaign promises.” There were a few who thought Obama was inspirational and doing the best with the circumstances he inherited. However, the complaints on the disconnect between Obama’s rhetoric and his actions dominated. Only one of member of the panel thought the recession is over.

“He promised earmark reform. He signed the biggest pork-laden bill, $700, $800 billion in new pork.”

“He hasn’t kept any of his campaign promises, so because of that, the words that he said, some of them were encouraging, but they ring hollow to me.”

Luntz pointed out that Nancy Pelosi, as Speaker of the House, is paid $223,000 per year, but the top U.S. general in America who runs the war gets $179,000 per year. Luntz then reminded the group that Obama said we should support the military and asked whether the general deserved to earn more than the Speaker of the House. Everyone said “yes.”

  1. Cynthia, I have to ask about DADT. Considering the Obamessiah would lose very little political capital if he repealed it, why do you think he’s holding out? Do you think he supports DADT, or is trying to keep LGBTs on a leash (equality would mean they wouldn’t automatically vote Democrat), or that he simply doesn’t care and is really that stupid? Or any combination thereof?

I suppose my question could be boiled down to the question of whether he’s committing evil out of malevolence or incompetence. When the majority of people support repealing it, it takes a spectacular level of laziness to do nothing.

    1. Liz,

Obama prioritizes anything that will destroy capitalism. I had a flash of insight last October when Genius DC Artist and I were in D.C. in DuPont Circle having lunch before joining the Equality March (for homosexual equality) that the organizing principle of Obama’s life is that he chooses what to do based on whether and how quickly it will destroy capitalism. I derived this insight from Jamie Glazov’s book updating Eric Hoffer’s work on the true believer and mass movements, United in Hate. Obama opposes homosexual equality because it is not helpful in destroying capitalism.

Now, I believe there is another reason that Obama, by his acts through Eric Holder’s amicus briefs, opposes homosexual equality: his ironclad allegiance to identity groups on the Left that vehemently oppose equality for homosexuals in order to have maximum control the reproductive lives of their members because they are nation-building. For the same reason, these groups also are the enemy of equality and choice for women. These groups are blacks; illegal immigrants; immigrants from homosexual-hating cultures (which are usually the same as cultures where women are considered property); and Muslims. This is what I read from Obama’s 20-year allegiance to Rev. Wright.

The Hill Buzz boyz are gay men in Chicago who have dirt on Obama going way back. This includes knowing men who were regulars at a gay bar called Man’s Country that several years ago was frequented by a tall, thin, light-skinned black man who boasted about being a state senator. They also know that Obama, unlike other prominent Chicago Democrats, including Hillary Clinton, has NEVER marched in a gay pride parade. It is common for people who are on the “down low,” or closeted, to maintain their “straight cred” by publicly dissing the gay community. I think Obama’s sexual orientation is “predator,” by the way, but I also believe Michelle does not have to worry much about female rivals.

To answer your question more succinctly, Obama is committing this evil out of malevolence. He only makes promises to the gay community when they get restless and take action, but they are gullible and terrified of the Right because everyone on the Right is Fred Phelps. However, some Leftie gay and lesbian bloggers have been calling for his promises to match his actions since they can count and see their perfect opportunity for equality being squandered by the Democrats. On the other side of the chasm, I am busy destroying the illusion that Republicans and the Right are bad for gays. Between us, we might just build that bridge required for equality. With Gen. Colin Powell, Gen. Shalikashvili and Dick Cheney supporting the repeal of DADT, it might be possible that Democrats indeed will repeal it since the Right is no longer giving their own prejudices cover.

  2. That is such a fantastic “Friends” clip, one of the most hilarious moments on the show.

Does anyone else actually feel a little relieved Utopia didn’t mind Ross’ advice, and instead stayed far left? If this man ever pivots towards the center, I would never believe it’s anything more than rhetoric and smoke in mirrors to get some of the more moderate electorate to back off. And I would always know that he’s still working his marxist magic behind the scenes, still charging forward with dismantling America – just even more under the cover of darkness.

So long as Obama stays openly left, he remains wildly, stunningly out of touch, and the populist anger continues to rage. So long as the American people stay furious, the more the blue dogs run for their lives, and the less Obama, Pelos and Reid can get done. The less these goons can get done, the more America can stay intact. And of course, this will also mean more GOP victories.

My biggest fear is that Obama will feign centrism, convince some angry Americans he’s heard them such that they’ll back off, but will actually continue to do dirty, destructive, and dangerous stuff behind the scenes.

So Dear Leader, please, by all means, stay left of left of left all the way through November, please!

Thank you for your response, which helped me sort out some things in my head. I agree with what you say, but I’d add that homosexual equality would be actively harmful to Obama’s attempts to destroy capitalism. If LGBTs have a stake in mainstream society, that’s one group that’s happy (or at least happier) with the status quo. Without that stake, there is a group that feels – legitimately – alienated from the social mores. That makes it easier to promote dissatisfaction with the economic norms.

That, and the fact that he really doesn’t seem to like LGBTs. If he was really taking the “softly, softly” approach, he’d stop persecuting people with DADT, and stop enforcing DOMA.

  4. Wow, Cynthia, I had to read your response to Liz 3 times. Eugenics is alive and well, it appears. Jawdropping, and an eye opener.
My head exploding moment came when Obama claimed to stand behind the protesters in Iran. A singular statement of condolence after Neda was murdered in the streets. That’s it. Period. At that very moment, I went from disliking the man, to loathing him.

    1. Sybilll,

Read Jules Crittenden today. You’re getting a LOT of company. Although I am not sure why you mention eugenics — my comment to Liz was about the Left’s desire to destroy capitalism and how actually enacting laws providing equality for homosexuals does not advance that agenda.
