Sassy Gay Friend saves The Giving Tree

H/T The Bloggess at Good Mom/Bad Mom: “It’s about damn time someone set The Giving Tree straight.”

Coming attractions: I am not satisfied with the post I’ve been working on the last couple of hours, so it will have to wait for tomorrow, or another day, but I will post the video of Shelby Steele that got me started on it. This weekend I want to write more about Jim Rutledge and Maryland’s Senate race, show how to make low-sodium fried green tomatoes, give a garden update and maybe show some photos of my father with some local celebrities.

  1. There are no words for how satisfying this video was.

I always hated that old story…

  2. Ditto. First, I LOVE this guy. Second, I have always despised that story. DESPISED it. Glad to see that Sassy Gay Friend definitely has his head on straight. So to speak!

  3. Oh, I forgot to say that I’m looking forward to the tomato posts. I am conducting a large tomato experiment in my tiny back yard, and I have one word for you: fusarium. Any suggestions, ideas, nature rites, etc. to control it would be welcome.

    1. Stinky,

Check out Tomatoville for info on fusarium — carolyn137 is Dr. Carolyn Male and nctomatoman is Craig LeHouillier. They are two of the world’s top experts on heirloom tomatoes. Dr. Male wrote 100 Heirloom Tomatoes for the American Garden.

I took photos of the progress of the tomatoes while I was locked out of posting after upgrading to WordPress 3.0. I’ll see if I can make some nice posts with the photos. It’s hot right now, but I’ll go out in about an hour to water the basil and patty pans squashes and take more photos. A few days ago, I was going to take a photo of the first ripe tomato on Wild Cherry, but Dad spotted it first and popped it into his mouth! Well, after all, that IS why I arrange the cherry tomatoes along the walkway so they are easy for him to reach!

      Cynthia
