What an epic prevarication-fest Obama’s healthcare reform speech to Congress was! I’ll link to others who have covered it tomorrow, including my favorite moment, the outraged cry, “You lie!” when Obama claimed Obamacare will not cover illegal aliens.
It was very decent of Obama to rile up the conservative base that way just before our 9/12 Tea Party in Washington, D.C. Why, if there were conservatives who felt apathetic about opposing Obamacare, and the mad rush to enact healthcare reform that won’t be put into action until 2013 — by which time Obama almost certainly will STILL not have found the church in D.C. where he wants to worship because SOME decisions are so important they require that amount of time and deliberation — then Obama succeeded in getting them fired up! Ready to go!
Update, 9/10/09:
Dan Collins has the best and funniest summary of Obama’s speech here and points out even the AP fact-checked Obama’s speech.
Prof. William Jacobson explains that Obama was indeed lying when he claimed the healthcare reform he is pushing will not cover illegal aliens. He also has video of Pres. Bush getting booed at Obama’s inauguration AND a transcript showing Democrats booed and hissed their way through Pres. Bush’s 2005 State of the Union speech. So the Democrats’ double standard about respect for the office of the presidency is intact and fully operational.
I found the video below at Gateway Pundit of the moment when South Carolina Congressman Joe Wilson shouted, “You lie!,” to Obama when he was lying about his healthcare reform package not covering illegal aliens. The video also includes Obama lying that his healthcare reform would not create death panels that would ration care to the elderly — does he think we can’t hear or see his advisor, Ezekiel Emanuel, M.D., or make sense of the bill ourselves? See Gateway Pundit for additional links on Obama’s death panels denial and Gov. Sarah Palin’s response. Gateway Pundit also goes into detail on the AP’s fact-checking of Obama’s speech.
While I agree with you that the outburst will help to fire up conservatives, I feel that it was indecorous. He sunk to the Jerry Springer level which in my mind is reserved for ultra-left-wing liberals. Great site!

Chuck Thompson,
Thank you!
I’ve mentioned the old joke before on this blog about the old-fashioned Southern girl who was so polite that before she could say she wasn’t that kind of girl, she was. Part of the Alinsky/Obama playbook is to overwhelm their opponents by exploiting their very decency. Obama’s legislative proposals are just a series of debt bombs intended to bring down the U.S. as a capitalist democratic republic and he gets them passed by scaring everyone and rushing us so we can’t read the fine print. He fearmongers because fear literally shuts off the critical faculty in the brain and then rushes people into doing his will. Plus, his speech was just one lie after another. It was an outrage. The lie that it would not cover illegal aliens was too offensive and I’m glad Joe Wilson shouted “You lie!” and called him on it. And — did you see the expression on the faces of Obama, Biden and Pelosi? Priceless!
Alinsky recommends using ridicule, so I say, when Obama lies it’s time to ridicule him and confront him and call him on each and every one — as he said he would do to us when we tell the truth. The time for decorum is over. We are fighting for our lives and our country.

I wouldn’t go so far as to say that The Won was lying.
Obama simply has no idea what’s in the various health care bills. He hasn’t read any of them, let alone all 3? or is 5? or perhaps 8 bills. In fact, no one will know what the legislation will be until it comes out of conference committee between the House and Senate. And those jokers will have free reign to add whatever they want to it during the conference before being sent to the House and Senate for final passage.
And even then, no Congresscritter or Senator or President will read it. Not in the time frames demanded for the vote. It will be physically impossible.
He’s not lying. Not yet, any way. He’s shirking his responsibility, as are the 535 members of Congress unless they vote no.
Great post! On the mark.
I was brought up to be sweet, quiet, and mannerly. Interrupting someone was considered very rude. And those mannerly rules serve well when dealing with normal, civil, and fair people.
When we’re dealing with abnormal, uncivil, and unfair people, not to mention liars with an agenda and purpose that is destructive to America and my fellow citizens, as we are now, it is quite alright to interrupt. The left has been doing that for years, and while I know and understand the emotional tug of “taking the high road,” and “not getting down on their level,” there is simply too much at stake to “be nice.” Decorum is fine, and has a place, but not in a fight for your life.
I too believe that Obama is deliberately lying. Of course he hasn’t read the bill, and has no intention of doing so, because he feels no need to. Nothing about this bill, or any other bill this Democratic congress will come up with is intended to help the American people. Power is the only goal, and lying is how they get there. I cheered when I heard him call out “LIE” and watching Pelosi’s face was the most fun I’ve ever had looking at her.
