Attila and Dan at Protein Wisdom — MAN UP!

Sebastian Gray, at HillBuzz, wrote about the difference between Democrats and Republicans regarding putting in the effort required to get what you want from government and corporations on June 12 when he predicted it would require 30 days of persistent, consistent effort to get David Letterman fired. He also wrote:

As a lifelong Democrat, I’m frequently perplexed by some of the behavior of all the Republican friends I made during the McCain/Palin campaign when those of us here at HillBuzz led Democrats for McCain efforts with our whole heart and soul.

Republicans give up so damn easy at just about everything.

OMG, he was right!

I just spied posts by my beloved Little Miss Attila and online friend Dan Collins at Protein Wisdom that they are inclined to accept David Letterman’s apology to Gov. Sarah Palin and her daughters, Bristol and Willow, set to air tonight. Both announced they will drop their campaigns to have Letterman fired now that it has dragged on for an exhausting three out of the 30 days that Sebastian predicted would be required to get Letterman fired.

Attila! Dan! Conservatives HAVE to finish this battle! If we don’t press it until Letterman is fired, as we said we would, we will be SWARMED with bullies who have been emboldened by our timidity and laziness. If you think committing to spending 15 minutes a day writing letters is a pain, I guarantee you that when you have multiplied your enemies with your weakness YOUR LIVES WILL SUCK ON A SCALE YOU CANNOT IMAGINE!!!

A newly conservative and newly Republican lesbian — me — and a centrist Democrat gay man — Sebastian Gray at HillBuzz — are telling conservatives how and why to do this, and leading the charge, BECAUSE, BEING GAY OR LESBIAN MAKES YOU A BULLY MAGNET, AND TO SURVIVE, WE DEVELOPED OUR LIBERAL ACTIVIST SKILLS, SO WE KNOW HOW TO DEAL WITH BULLIES!

YOU CANNOT DUCK THIS FIGHT!

NOW GET BACK TO WORK!!!

  1. You are so right! I just went on to the Kellogg’s website and sent an email (pretty much “since you continue to advertise on Letterman’s show, you must endorse his despicable remarks, so I’ll spend my money somewhere else”). There is absolutely nothing about this issue anywhere on there website. I would think that if they were getting emails or letters on the subject, there would at least be some sort of corporate mush posted to say why they’re not at fault and are really good guys. But – nothing! Obviously they couldn’t give a damn because no one is even trying to make them sweat.
You would think that if conservatives can’t man up enough to stand up for women in general, they could at least try to stick up for a 14 year old kid!

  2. “Republicans give up so damn easy at just about everything.”

Democrats play hard ball. Show time, down and dirty, major league hardball.

Republicans play Modified Slow-Pitch Softball. They are weenies.

And I will be reminding the RNC of that fact in my response to their latest mailing, an obama “poll”. As if they don’t already know how we really feel. As if they care.

    Damn RINOs

  3. It’s not so much the Republicans give up easily, or are weenies. It’s that conservative types don’t tend to also be activist types. Shouting and carrying signs and such – these things don’t come easily to us. We tend to keep to ourselves and expect others to do the same.

That’s what was so significant about the Tea Parties. The liberals could whip up a lather and a couple hundred loonies to march around for just about any old cause – it just comes natural to them. For the rest of us to do the same thing was just amazing.

More of us need to step up and be activists AND conservatives. I’m one of many bloggers that are trying to spread the word not only via blog, but by friends, at work, etc… I don’t get a lot of hits, but I get a few, and maybe those few will convince someone on the fence to swing in our direction on their next vote.

  4. His excuses contradict each other:

“But there was a joke that I told, and I thought I was telling it about the older daughter being at Yankee Stadium.”

“And I had, honestly, no idea that the 14-year-old girl, I had no idea that anybody was at the ball game except the governor and I was told at the time she was there with Rudy Giuliani … ”

And if he didn’t know anyone was at the game, why did he check to make sure she was 18?

He says the next day people were angry at him for insulting a 14 year-old, but that night he tells the Spitzer joke?

  5. I don’t forgive Letterman. David Letterman’s new apology obscures his intentional cruelty to a noncombatant: Bristol Palin. A proper apology would acknowledge he wrongly pulled an 18 year old noncombatant into the spotlight; would acknowledge he wrongly subjected her to ridicule and scorn. David Letterman cannot admit, to himself or to the nation, he was intentionally cruel to Bristol Palin, and was wrong to subject her to ridicule and scorn.

  6. Cynthia,

You kick ass! I have written a post on my Blog (part of a series to re-build the party called the Republican Encyclicals). The post is called: Our battlefields.

This is the first step. I will be charting the other battlefields on my Blog — but we must hit and hit until they say “We will not make Emmanuel Goldsteins of your people,” (as they did with palin and her family.

And I speak as a former NYC’er and political partisan from the Old school.

  8. Thanks to great bloggers and activists like Cythania and Sebastian.
Believe me….conservative supporters of Sarah Palin see the efforts you guys are putting in to defend her and it will not be forgotten since gratitude is the memory of the heart. Real GLBT rights supporters (not marxists and leftists)should learn from you guys because this is how you win friends and allies in places you would not expect.
Thanks again for your bravery, support and principle.

  9. Cynthia, you are exactly right! I am a conservative and member of the GOP but I am glad you are fighting on our side in this. The problem with conservatives is that we try to be rational and fair, so we accept too easily the demonization of conservatives.

I read few responses on Protein Wisdom and the fear that Letterman will become a martyr and conservatives will be tarred is true. Conservatives have been bashed by unreasoning emotion leftists so long they are fearful.

Get rid of him and all others that enable him.

I am glad that we have a common issue. I suppose that we will part ways on other issues, but I accept your help and glad you and Sebastian of Hillbuzz are fighting for us. Damn we do need you and Sebastian.
