My impression of David Letterman is that people in general, and women in particular, exist to jump at his command and serve his every whim. And I am still outraged that CBS did not fire him in June for his sexist remarks about former Alaska governor Sarah Palin and his rapes jokes about her daughters. Conservatives made a big mistake by not demanding his termination or resignation until they got it, if not out of respect for Gov. Palin, then out of self-interest in ensuring that conservative candidates and thinkers are safe to enter the marketplace of ideas without worrying about attacks on their family members and in confronting sexism as a pernicious prejudice that is destructive to all females.

And as for the comedians who stood up for Dave and the right to say anything — the most egregious was Steven Crowder, since he is a conservative — I’m still waiting for even one of them to take up my dare and make a YouTube video using the exact words of Letterman’s jibes at Gov. Palin and her daughters but substituting the names of Michelle Obama and her daughters.

Because I’m thinking there will turn out to be some things you just don’t say, after all. According to the exact same people who defended Letterman and the right to say anything.

Anyhoo, karma’s a bitch and just this week she forced Letterman to admit publicly that he sexually preyed on the women on his staff, including the woman who bore his son and finally roped him into marriage in March. It doesn’t look like CBS is going to fire him over it. But it does look like there is no need to campaign to fire David Letterman, at least for now, because he seems to be handling his own self-destruction perfectly well. The wheels of cosmic justice may grind slowly, but they grind exceedingly fine. BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!

If you want conservatives to be able to field the best and brightest candidates, there’s something you can do at your Tea Party to make that happen: send the message that sexism and attacks on the children of people you disagree with are career suicide. The way to do that is to make an example of David Letterman, who attacked Gov. Palin and her daughters on June 8 and 9, then made sneering, sham apologies on June 10 and 15. He resumed his attacks only four days later. We MUST do the work required to get David Letterman fired!

Here are two things YOU can bring to your local Tea Party to help get David Letterman fired:

1. Copies of contact info in the file at the end of this post. It lists the top executives for CBS and three major Letterman sponsors to show people where to write to get Letterman fired.
2. A petition to CBS to fire David Letterman for attacking the children of a politician because he disagrees with her. (The privacy statement for the petitions should let signers know that this list will only be used to present copies to CBS and Letterman sponsors and to keep them informed of the progress of this campaign.)

Whether or not Gov. Palin is your favorite candidate, if we tolerate the degrading and sexist remarks Letterman made about her as looking like a “slutty flight attendant” and his fantasizing about her daughter getting “knocked up” while attending a baseball game with her mother, we are telling every single one of our candidates that when they stand up for us they are putting their children in harm’s way. We also are telling our candidates that when they stand up for us, we will not stand up for them.

This is NOT the way to attract the best and brightest candidates. However, it IS the way to tell our ideological opponents that they can beat us up and take our lunch money whenever they want. And that message will multiply the number and viciousness of the bullies attacking us and our candidates. IT. MUST. STOP. NOW.

That is why it is important to persist in the campaign to get David Letterman fired. It is an extremely efficient and cost-effective way to improve the level of courtesy in public discourse.

Over at Legal Insurrection, Prof. Jacobson has the scoop on Wonkette’s escalating a recent PhotoShopped image attack on Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin’s one-year-old son who has Down syndrome, Trig Palin. Gov. Palin and her husband, Todd, knew during her pregnancy that Trig would be born with Down syndrome, but due to their pro-life beliefs, made the choice to embrace their fifth child and bring him to term. He was born in April 2008.

As a Democrat and liberal during the fall presidential campaign, with feminist and lesbian-feminist friends possessed of my e-mail address, I received a number of the poisonous and lie-filled viral e-mails attacking Gov. Palin, which I believe account for the drop in her approval ratings among women. I think the reason that feminists who sent these e-mails and now persist in their attacks are so unhinged in their hatred of Gov. Palin is that her love and acceptance of her Down syndrome child takes away one of the scariest and most persuasive arguments in favor of abortion they have — the Down syndrome baby.

I support the right of a woman to choose whether or not to bring her pregancy to term or have an abortion. I think the right to choose is what keeps women free from being taken over by religions and governments and turned into property that makes babies.

I also think the viciousness of the attacks on Gov. Palin and her son, Trig, are going to backfire on supporters of the right to choose. I think their attacks, and David Letterman’s, on Gov. Palin and her children are going to do for conservatives and Republicans what Pat Buchanan’s speech at the 1992 Republican Convention did for the disorganized factions among Democrats. It so enraged them that they stopped forming their firing squads in a circle because at last they realized they had a common enemy and had to cooperate to defeat him.

What I want is for the right to choose to be preserved, but the attacks on candidates’ children to stop. I think the best way to draw a line in the sand is for everyone outraged by attacks on candidates’ and politicians’ children is to get David Letterman fired for his attacks on Gov. Palin’s daughters.

Oh, and it’s worth noting, that the boogey-fetus in China and India is the perfectly healthy baby girl.

I just made the following comment over at HillBuzz’s post on the importance of persistence in dealing with corporations — in this case, the campaign to persuade CBS to fire David Letterman:

What if we went to the Tea Parties with petitions calling for David Letterman to be fired and brought along pre-printed post cards and letters people could sign (after filling in their return address) that we would mail to CBS and Letterman’s sponsors?

We should press this until Letterman is fired.

I am positive the reason HillBuzz is standing pat on Sebastian’s June 18 post is that they are pressing this point: persistence and tenacity win the day. The idea of going to the Tea Parties prepared to give people something tangible to do to show that attacking children to intimidate and manipulate people you don’t agree with is career suicide will show CBS the campaign to FIRE DAVID LETTERMAN is gathering momentum.

David Letterman’s attacks on Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin and her daughters on “The Late Show with David Letterman” on CBS on June 8 and 9, and his sham apologies on June 10 and June 15, are grounds for persuading CBS to fire him. He made degrading sexual remarks about Gov. Palin and joking about her daughter being raped in front of her. He played his insincere apologies for laughs and used them to throw salt in the wound. The bottom line is that his attacks were not only degrading to ALL women, but also were a warning to any politician he disagrees with that he will treat them — and their children — the same way. His behavior is sexist because his remarks were degrading and humiliating on the basis of female characteristics. What he did was bullying because he was humiliating an adversary who cannot fight back.

But what Letterman did also can be called mobbing.

Wikipedia cites the book Mobbing, Emotional Abuse in the American Workplace (p. 21, 2005) for the first use of the term being applied to animal behavior:

“In the sixties, the eminent Austrian ethologist Konrad Lorenz used the English term mobbing to describe the behaviour that animals use to scare away a stronger, preying enemy. A number of weaker individuals crowd together and display attacking behavior, such as geese scaring away a fox.”

Wikipedia notes that the Royal Society for Protection of Birds describes mobbing as it is done by birds:

Mobbing is a noisy, obvious form of behaviour that birds engage in to defend themselves or their offspring from predators. When a predator is discovered, the birds start to emit alarm calls and fly at the predator, diverting its attention and harassing it. Sometimes they make physical contact. Mobbing usually starts with just one or two birds, but may attract a large number of birds, often of many species. For example, a chorus of different alarm calls coming from the same tree is often a good sign of a roosting owl or a cat.

Mobbing behaviour has been recorded in a wide range of species, but it is particularly well developed in gulls and terns, while crows are amongst the most frequent mobbers. In addition to flying at the predator and emitting alarm calls, some birds, such as fieldfares and gulls, add to the effectiveness by defecating or even vomiting on the predator with amazing accuracy… [my emphasis].

Wikipedia notes:

Research into the phenomenon [of mobbing by humans] was pioneered in the 1980′s by German-born Swedish scientist Heinz Leymann, who borrowed the term from animal behavior due to it describing perfectly how a group can attack an individual based only the negative covert communications from the group.

… German, Polish and several other European languages have adopted mobbing as a loanword to describe all forms of bullying including that by single persons. The resultant German verb mobben can also be used for physical attacks, calumny against teachers on the internet and intimidation by superiors, with an emphasis on the victims’ continuous fear rather than the perpetrators’ will to exclude them.

… in workplace psychology [mobbing] narrowly refers to “ganging up” by others to harass and intimidate an individual.

Mobbing is also found in school systems and this too was discovered by Dr. Heinz Leymann. Although he preferred the term bullying in the context of school children, some have come to regard mobbing as a form of group bullying. It is interesting to note that a German born doctor practicing in Sweden chose the English term “Mobbing” to describe this social phenomenon. As professor and practicing psychologist, Dr. Leymann also noted one of the side-effects of Mobbing is Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and is frequently misdiagnosed. After making this discovery he successfully treated thousands of mobbing victims at his clinic in Sweden.

In the book MOBBING: Emotional Abuse in the American Workplace, the authors say that mobbing is typically found in work environments that have poorly organized production and/or working methods and incapable or inattentive management and that mobbing victims are usually “exceptional individuals who demonstrated intelligence, competence, creativity, integrity, accomplishment and dedication.” [Emphasis mine.]

For the sake of emphasis, let me repeat the most important points:

1. Mobbing is a form of bullying by a group to  harass and intimidate an individual.
2. The intent is to drive away the individual.
3. Mobbing starts with one or two persons sounding the call to alert the group to attack.
4. Mobbing typically originates among groups “that have poorly organized production and/or working methods and incapable or inattentive management” — this doesn’t always define liberals and liberalism because they can organize grievances extremely well, but I can’t resist taking the shot.
5. “… Mobbing victims are usually ‘exceptional individuals who demonstrated intelligence, competence, creativity, integrity, accomplishment and dedication.,”
6. One of the side effects of mobbing for the mobbing victim is post-traumatic stress disorder.

What Letterman was mobbing and he did it to Gov. Palin, her teen-age daughters, to all women, and to both the male and female conservatives and/or Republican in the public arena with whom he disagrees. He can’t be dismissed as one individual trying to destroy just a few women because HE WAS TALKING TO AN AUDIENCE OF MILLIONS OF PEOPLE AND INCITING THEM TO BEHAVE THE SAME WAY TOWARD THE SAME TARGETS.

We must and can defend ourselves with a consistent, persistent campaign as described here (my “Fire David Letterman Kit,” part two) and here (HillBuzz on the importance of persistence) and here (www.firedavidletterman.com, a list of the sponsors and contact info) to GET DAVID LETTERMAN FIRED NOW. Getting David Letterman fired is our notice that the sexism, the bullying and the mobbing of Letterman and his ilk are career suicide — since they are not refraining from these tactics because they are wrong.

We must persist in persuading Letterman’s sponsors to pull their ads, convincing celebrity guests to refuse to appear on his show and informing CBS that the ONLY cure for their hemorraging money and prestige is to FIRE DAVID LETTERMAN!

And Big Hollywood seems to have had the scales fall from its eyes regarding Letterman by the end of the week — or Eric Golub has, because he’s a long-time fan who is now saying, “Dave, You’re Fired.”

As Stacy McCain noted “On Relentlessness,” over at The Other McCain, yes, I am, and you will be, too, when we win this battle and you learn for yourself how good it feels to know you’ve gained the knowledge for life of how you can make the bullies stop.

We’re targeting Johnson & Johnson on Monday, rather than Kellogg’s for one very simple reason: Over the last 2 weeks, Johnson & Johnson has been the single largest advertiser on “The Late Night Show with David Letterman.”

Friday night, June 19, they ran spots for Listerine, KY Brands, AND Aveeno, and have been regularly running spots on Letterman since Wednesday June 10.

Kellogg’s ran a Mini-Wheats spot on June 11, and we know they didn’t run spots on June 12, 15, 16, and 19. We don’t have data on the 17th and 18th for Kellogg’s yet. So, for the time being, we’re giving Kellogg’s the benefit of the doubt.

The “FIRE DAVID LETTERMAN” campaign is making for some very strange bedfellows, indeed, what with the post yesterday by Rick Moran over at Rightwing Nuthouse praising my determination to GET DAVID LETTERMAN FIRED NOW!!!

I have to take my 93-year-old father to the doctor — relax, just to get some moles that are bugging him removed — so I have to make this quick. I made a comment at Rick’s and wondered what his peeps had to say about it. Turns out one of them — probably more — can’t figure out what Letterman did that was bullying.

#35: Ridicule on its face is a type of bullying. I’m shocked I have to explain to anyone that what Letterman did is bullying. ALL of it was bullying, except for the hostage-taking explained below.

Michelle Malkin’s piece on Letterman (search her site, linked on mine) included Letterman’s long rant developing the “slutty flight attendant” theme — THAT was bullying. And you know, I just realized, another thing that makes what Letterman did bullying is that Gov. Palin — and all of his other targets, this isn’t a victim rant — are powerless to stop him and do not have the access he has to create a mob and sic them on everyone he hates. So — now that I think about it — Letterman’s behavior is bullying, mobbing (Google it, it’s a word) AND hostage-taking. You read it here, first, folks (and I’ve put so much time into this I’m copying it to post on my blog).

Going after someone’s children flies past bullying into hostage taking, as I point out at my blog. It is notice to anyone courageous enough to take the battering that goes with public life that it will extend to their family members, too. For most people, the thought of exposing their children to attacks is horrifying. And that is the intent of the people like Letterman who do this: to destroy their enemies and drive them out of the political marketplace. It is an extremely effective technique. I got run out of the lesbian community in the 1990′s, as I mention in a recent post, because Margaret was assaulted at a conference when I was 15 or 20 feet away from her and couldn’t move fast enough to intervene. The reporter from a Baltimore gay newspaper thought nothing of the assault and did not — actually, refused — to report it. Margaret, my late life partner, was quadriplegic due to multiple sclerosis. So there isn’t anyone these loons are above attacking.

We must fight back. We must stop the bullying. We must start with Letterman. We must win. Instructions are posted on my blog.

And I will remind you that my beloved life partner was too disabled to work due to her multiple sclerosis when I told her she was the love of my life and we would spend the rest of our lives together, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health, until death parted us. I know all about taking on a challenge that looks impossible and bringing it to a successful conclusion. (New readers: see my post, “Gay Marriage.”) So it looks like I have something positive to contribute to the party, after all.

The extremely youthful would-be comedian and unfunny hack, Steven Crowder, who has no discernible sense of humor and ethics that primarily are directed at the behavior of people other than himself, is on his high horse at Big Hollywood about freedom of speech — oh, and calling for Republicans to “grow a sense of humor” about entertainers who fantasize on TV about the daughters of people they hate being raped.

OK, Steven, if you are so brave, and humor and freedom of speech mean so much to you, then do a video of yourself performing Letterman’s EXACT SAME JOKES about Gov. Sarah Palin and her daughters from June 8, 9 and 10, including the entire flight attendant rant quoted here by Michelle Malkin, only substitute the names of Michelle Obama and Malia and Sasha. Then post your video on YouTube, see if PJTV will carry it, and announce it to the world via Big Hollywood and Twitter.

But, I have some advice for you before you do: (1) make your will; (2) pre-arrange your funeral and pay for it; (3) give someone durable general power-of-attorney over your affairs and tell them where all your financial records and important papers are; and (4), give someone durable medical power-of-attorney and tell them your wishes about feeding tubes and being kept alive if you are in a persistent vegetative state due to, say, a brain injury — just in case, oh, I don’t know, your routine pisses off people who decide to “stone you old-school.”

I’m waiting, funny boy.

I wrote in my “About me” page that my transformation from liberal to fiscal conservative during the fall of the 2008 presidential campaign made me wonder if that was what turning into a werewolf felt like. (Roger Simon, founder of Pajamas Media, wrote in his book, Blacklisting Myself, that he had similar emotions during his transition from Left to Right, but he compared it to getting a sex change.)

These feelings came up first, and were the most intense and bewildering, when I began to read Ann Coulter’s columns and laugh until tears ran down my face. I was enjoying AND agreeing with the work of the conservative anti-Christ! What was happening to me? I could tell I really had the fiscal conservative monkey on my back when I began to go through her column archive at her Web site, www.AnnCoulter.com, laughing and laughing, saying “Tell it, sister!” and then calling Cuban Diva BFF to read Coulter’s columns aloud to her so we could laugh and say “Amen!” together.

Then I went to CPAC and caught a glimpse of Ms. Coulter in person while she was being interviewed on Radio Row. Just seeing how petite she is touched my heart, especially in comparison to how large she looms as a devil in Left-wing minds, and I was inspired to write my first humor post, “Scent of a Woman.” I hope if she ever reads it, it makes her smile and she can feel that there is real love, respect and gratitude in my heart for her and her body of work.

Imagine my surprise this morning when I checked my sitemeter to see how my campaign to GET DAVID LETTERMAN FIRED is coming along and I spied several links of visitors coming from Ann Coulter’s site. Holy cow!

I have to admit, I called Cuban Diva BFF as soon as I saw the links from Ms. Coulter in my sitemeter and didn’t click to see Ms. Coulter’s site until I could share my wonder and joy with her. (Cuban Diva BFF has a generosity of soul that multiplies the joy of anyone who shares their good news with her.)

Cuban Diva BFF lives in Manhattan and is friends with one of Ann Coulter’s body guards. Think about that. Ann Coulter needs body guards because of things she says.

Another conservative columnist whom I love and respect, Michelle Malkin, also needs body guards because she is such an effective and sharp-witted journalist with a conservative point of view.

Like Michelle Malkin, I know what is it like to get beaten up and run out of town by totalitarian feminists because that’s what happened when my late life partner and I conducted a six-year campaign in the 1990′s to get a group LED BY THE TOP LESBIANS IN THE DISABILITY RIGHTS MOVEMENT in Washington, D.C., to make good on their pledges to choose wheelchair-accessible meeting venues. I fell in love with Michelle Malkin for her column on the “Sisterhood of the Protected Female Liberal Journalists” because she made sense of what had happened to me on a much smaller scale so that for the first time I could understand why I had been shellacked, abandoned by almost everyone I thought would have my back and driven out of the lesbian community. Well, actually, I realized I could no longer go into it because I would be with a vulnerable person, my quadriplegic life partner, whom I could not be sufficiently sure of being able to protect every minute.

Which reminds me, have you people forgotten that Gov. Palin was invited by Comcast in October 2008 to go to Philadelphia to do the ceremony of dropping the puck to start a hockey game with the Philadelphia Eagles and how viciously she was booed AND ACCUSED OF BRINGING HER SEVEN-YEAR-OLD DAUGHTER, PIPER, ALONG WITH HER A HUMAN SHIELD! Gov. Palin loves hockey! Her daughter loves hockey! She brought her daughter to a hockey game! Not only did the crowd feel free to boo Gov. Palin and felt no shame about including her daughter, afterwards a man was inciting the crowd to attack Gov. Palin with cries of, “Let’s stone her old-school!” (See here and here.)

These are some of the reasons why I am determined to GET DAVID LETTERMAN FIRED!!!

David Letterman deliberately and viciously and with malice-of-forethought made vile, sexist attacks repeatedly on both Gov. Palin and her innocent teen-age daughters in order to destroy her career and force her out of politics in order to protect her children. We cannot stand idly by and tolerate the sexism and vicious attacks on our conservative politicians, journalists and columnists AND THEIR FAMILIES. If we do not show our loyalty and guard their backs and take out their enemies persistently and consistently, we really must consider that they could be murdered, especially in light of the recent spate of killings by fanatics.

We also must consider that if conservatives do not show their loyalty and fight for our conservative politicians, journalists and columnists, we really will have fewer talented women — and men — willing to fight for us.

So, please get to work on the consistent, persistent effort required to persuade CBS to FIRE DAVID LETTERMAN NOW!!!

Yes, I know David Letterman apologized a second time on Monday, June 15. But just for the raping-the-fourteen-year-old-no-wait-the-eighteen-year-old-new-mother-right-in-front-of-her-own-mother joke. Just for that one joke. Not for calling 14-year-old Willow a prostitute (“keep her away from Elliot Spitzer”) on Tuesday, June 9. Not for calling characterizing Gov. Palin’s great beauty as a “slutty flight attendant” look, nor his insane rant about the evil type of flight attendant Gov. Palin would be.

Yes, I know Gov. Palin graciously accepted Letterman’s apology on Tuesday, June 16.

Yes, I know that Al Sharpton is trying to frame his successful campaign to get Don Imus fired as right and just because he, Sharpton, was protecting an entire race, while the campaign to get Letterman fired is invalid because Letterman’s remarks were only directed at three individuals and therefore not offensive. Sharpton is wrong. Letterman was sexist. His malicious remarks and sham apologies were an attack on all women. And he was particularly sexist and degrading toward a woman he hated, a woman he wanted to goad and bait by publicly humiliating and attacking her teen-age daughters in order to damage her politically.

I also know Jim Treacher is calling for everyone just to get along now. No, Jim, wrong call. Even Michelle Malkin, who is one of the most courageous persons on the planet and who ought to know better because this kind of all-out assault is so frequently used against her by both men and women on the Left, is only calling for viewers to change the channel. Big Hollywood, which linked my post calling for Letterman to be fired early yesterday, went all squishy by the evening and was more concerned with REAL problems, like someone getting on Letterman to spout global warming dogma.

No, no, no, no, no, NO!

Letterman is a shameless, relentless, sexist bully. His insults did not just attack Gov. Palin and her daughters. They were a warning to uppity women everywhere that scorched-earth destruction would be their fate WHILE ONLOOKERS LAUGHED if they EVER disagree with David Letterman and his pals on the Left. Uppity women not only can count on being attacked personally, but just in case they are brave enough to face attacks on themselves, they have been served notice that their innocent children now are hostages and will be harmed for their mothers’ political beliefs. THAT IS HOW CRIME FAMILIES OPERATE!!!

Little Miss Attila explains the problem with Letterman’s sexism best:

This is American Sharia, assholes. The practitioners of Sharia in Muslim countries are at least consistent in their contempt for women and in their practice of gender apartheid: you, on the other hand, want sexual slavery for some women in this country; others, whose opinions you prefer, can live in relative peace and freedom. You will allow it.

If you are giving women and girls the “gift” of not being badgered for being female, and threatened with misogyny and sexual assault, they are not truly free-only living in a state of grace, contingent upon performing the right tricks, spouting leftist verbiage like seals at Sea World, balancing balls on their noses in the hopes of getting fish thrown into their mouths.

And any woman who doesn’t understand this fundamental truth about the misogynists living among them could be in for a rude awakening at any point, because that attitude will infect those who harbor it.

I also predicted this week that if we are too lazy and foggy about our priorities to do the consistent, persistent work to get Letterman fired, that there will be millions more emboldened to imitate him and make our lives a hell. Bill Maher’s nasty remarks about Sarah Palin on his HBO show on Friday night prove that point.

Stop the abuse! Stop the intimidation of women! Don’t let bullies get away with attacking the innocent children of the people they hate to cow them into toeing their ideological line.

Nip it! Nip it in the bud! FIRE DAVID LETTERMAN NOW!!!

Yes, as a matter of fact, I AM relentless in my pursuit of a goal. But I only want Letterman fired. Over at The Other McCain they are made of sterner stuff and are posing the question, “Who will rid me of this gap-toothed comedian?” And while I was there I saw Smitty had some excellent advice for young Steven Crowder, a callous and unfunny hack who lectured his betters yesterday at Big Hollywood because he is OK with humor that intimidates and bullies women. Word, Steven: (1) to expound on humor convincingly, you must HAVE a sense of humor — a snotty sense of superiority is not a substitute; and (2), if you do not know why Letterman should be fired for his malicious and unfunny attacks, you do not understand the problem and should step aside and get out of the way of people who do.
