As a lifelong, pro gay marriage and gay rights Republican, this moment is the proudest moment I've ever had a Republican. I am so moved and happy that the conservative members of the CPAC audience boldly and correctly stood up for gays and lesbians and - rightfully - shamed this bigoted idiot off the stage. I am so proud and so overjoyed.

My dream and prayer is that more and more gays and lesbians will feel welcome and comfortable in the conservative movement and republican party. After all, I do believe that it is the right that is the best hope for advancing gay rights. When it happens - and it will - it will be thanks to conservatives.

As you've mentioned, Cynthia, those on the right who are hesitant to advocate for gay rights simply want to know how it will pertain to or affect their religions. But the thing is - and it is paradoxical - these very same religions also teach and preach love, forgiveness, no judgment. And the right teaches and preaches liberty. Increasingly so, these people who hold loving beliefs rooted in liberty and understanding it is simply not their place to advocate for stipulations on that love or liberty. It's hypocritical. And these days, more and more people are realizing that we have to go all in for liberty, especially when the left has gone all in for crushing it. And when people go all in for liberty, they're going to understand you can't go all in and then also deny it to some groups of Americans. It's happening - people's hearts are opening up, cracked open by love of country and re-commitment to liberty and freedom for all, particularly the religious right who've long been hesitant to advance gay rights. I see it around me and it warms my heart like nothing has in a long time.

And then the crazies on the far left can keep trying to say Islam is the religion of peace and Christians are the scary, dangerous threat. What a joke. The more they say this, the more people will come to see them as a joke.

There is an important difference between Republicans and Democrats. We do not all support gay marriage and ending DADT. I admit it. I simply do not know. My beautiful sister is a conservative Christian and is against it because her interpretation of the Bible tells her that gay sex is a sin that gays will have to answer for on Judgment Day. It is, however, her duty to love the sinner, hate the sin and she does a pretty good job of that.

What we Republicans do not do is side with those clowns in the Mideast who hang gays from construction cranes and throw them off tall buildings. The Donks? Not so much.

I'm pretty much a redneck, about the same as Stacy McCain. I pretty much avoid the great gay issues and I no more want to see hetero sex in the streets as gay. I spent valuable time knocking on car windows tellin' all kinds of folks that "you can't do that here, it scares the horses." I never much cared who all it was. Before I had the seniority to avoid that duty a pretty large percentage of the men we busted for makin' whoopee with other men in public parks and such were married. We as individuals deputies never much cared about the whoopee, we cared about the public. In all the years I worked the back roads of the county I never once caught any women doing such things, proving something or other. Women are smarter? More self control? Sneakier? More frightened of the possibilities? All of the above? Didn't care then, don't care now but it did give us a little something to talk about during some of those deep night shifts.

Funny, when I hired on , right after I got out of the Service, there were the real Texas Rednecks still on the job, men who had served in the racially segregated military of WW2, men who casually used the "N" word and who referred to our citizens of Latino descent as "Mexes" even the ones who had been here since before 1836, including those who had family that fought on our side back then. Those good ol' boys taught me one thing though, even though they used words that would send the modern academic into hysterics, that I had to treat everyone with as much respect as they'd let me. Without that I'd never figure out who dunnit and I'd have to fight all the time;. But, again, I digress. I reckon it's part of bein' old.

Still I am always shocked (to the extent that I'm capable of being shocked by human stupidity) to see women and self professed gays wearing those stupid checkerd tablecloths on their head screeching about Palestine. It's the Izzies who want to defend their gays and lesbians, "Palestinians" want to kill them. Sigh.

Actually, Stinky, I think that real conservatives have never really cared who does what with whom in the privacy of their own bedroom. It's always been more the religious nuts who grabbed onto the right that have gotten all aflutter over it.

Most of the conservatives I know and grew up with (my parents for example) are more concerned about the government spending us into a hole. The religious right just kinda hijacked the platform the way the nuts have hijacked the Dems platform.

I must say I am happy as hell he got booed off the stage. The old party might have politely listened and then ignored him because that would have been the 'civil' thing to do. Sometimes the civil thing is the wrong thing.

Stinky,

Too late! I was laughing immediately! And Moe Lane is sitting next to me here in the Bloggers Lounge at CPAC while Ann Coulter is answering questions and you gave him a chuckle, too!

Wow. I think this is a sign that the Republican party is becoming more socially libertarian.

I have terrible gaydar. I just realized a month ago that Anderson Cooper might be gay. Don't laugh!

"Obama and his minions are not going to be afraid. I predict they will re-double their efforts to demonize the Right to make homosexuals confused and terrified of leaving the plantation."

Of course, but that's what they always do. The problem for the Dems is that people in general aren't stupid, and those with as much at stake as LGBTs have to be much fussier. If the only way you can justify their votes is to demonise people with no power, at some point you're going to lose the votes. And if LGBTs abtain or go third party, they're taking their loved ones with them. I see the Democrats losing their monopoly over the next few years.
