Attmay,

Thank you for your comment. Polygamy is a separate fight and we are not advocating it. In fact, polygamy seems to be most in the news when a charismatic Christian leaders wants to get their new religion off the ground very fast. Also, it is permitted by Islam. They really need to let same-sex marriage through so they can fight polygamy.

I've never understood why religious people are claiming their religions will be forced to perform same-sex marriages. First of all, we have separation of church and state. It's not constitutional. I'm not saying no one will be enough of a jerk to try it -- but that's not what we want and it violates the Constitution. Secondly, we have the Metropolitan Community Church founded by the gay pastor Troy Perry for homosexuals. Or we can set up Internet churches the same way straight people can. We don't need to take over anyone else's religion. We are a very self-reliant people that way.

Anti-gay Christians believe that if the state made same-sex marriage legal, that:

A) Other forms of marriage that already existed and have been banned because of their proven harm to individuals (polygamy).

B) They would be forced to perform them, when they are not forced by law to perform any service not part of their religious teachings, otherwise Southern Baptists would be performing Bar Mitzvahs.

Pro-gay Christian churches already cannot perform same-sex weddings because "the power vested in me" is not vested in them. MCC ought to be suing them on First Amendment grounds.

I am not gay but I have never understood what the deal is as to why a gay person's marriage isn't recognized by the govt. The argument is simple: if you pay taxes, you get the rights and liberties.
If you come here illegally, you can marry. If you are incarcerated, you can marry. Yet, don't be gay cuz you can't marry. The argument just doesn't wash.

James R. Fencil,

OK, then, if marriage is a statist favor, let's get the state out of marriage altogether.

Michael Steele's comment that "white gay men have enough rights already" proves him to be a racist as well as a homophobe.

Pinch Sulberger's lame attempt to place blame on the establishment is hardly surprising. Homosexuals deserve liberty, not statist favors. If sexual orientation is innate, like gender, vigor, and intelligence then the unequal outcomes arising within a system of unforced exchanges are to be expected. Juvenile resentment of the natural facts on the ground, across all species, is unavailing. No element of this condition calls forth the state.
