confuse people by saying that Letterman was referring to the youngest daughter, well we all know that was a lie

Really? was it? why did Letterman apologize, then?

The first rule of standup never explain, never apologize. If you have to explain, it wasn't funny.

Second thing, the daughter that was with Palin in NYC was the younger one. Did Lettermen really think "Mr. May" Payrod would be able to score long distance with the teenager back in Alaska.

Maybe Letterman has something in common with Polanski? hmmmm...

Paul,

If you are talking about the "Politician who preaches one thing and lives another," you must mean Obama. For example, where's all that transparency we were promised? And the full text of bills posted online for days before Congress votes? Hmmmm?

Perhaps you mean the politicians who got caught having affairs after using "family values" to promote their careers. Yes, that was wrong. But Sarah Palin was not one of them.

Sarah Palin DOES support education about birth control in public schools, as the Leftist Reclusive pointed out this summer in her post debunking lies about Gov. Palin. And it was outraged conservatives who pointed out that Letterman's jokes about the third baseman having sex with her daughter were rape jokes because she attended the game with Willow, her 14-year-old, not Bristol, who was 18. Once conservatives pointed this out, the Palins expressed their objections, and rightly so.

I also object to comparing Letterman to Levi Johnston. Letterman is 62, famous, powerful and extremely wealthy. Johnston was 17 or 18 when he impregnated Bristol; I don't think his father is around and I gather his mother abuses prescription drugs and the family is struggling financially. In every way, Letterman and Johnston are worlds apart. Maybe Johnston begged Bristol not to make him use a condom, or he manipulated her into letting him not use one. Maybe they just went too far in the heat of the moment and Johnston was not responsible enough to have the condom AND put it on. But the other distinction between Letterman and Johnston is that Letterman could both fire the women who refused his sexual advances and also ruin their careers. Johnston is irresponsible and stupid. Letterman is a sociopath.

I believe that the American people can see the distinction between a Late Night jokester and a Politician who preaches one thing and lives another. And I also believe that the American people will have more compassionate than all the Republican social conservatives. Lets face it all Letterman was doing is what Levi Johnston was doing except that Bristol Palin got pregnant (birth control apparently was not discussed). Just because Sarah Palin tried to confuse people by saying that Letterman was referring to the youngest daughter, well we all know that was a lie. I do not share your opinion, but who knows what the court case will reveal.

Paul,

The problem is not that Letterman cheated on his girlfriend-now-wife. It's that he sexually exploited women who were in his power. And his sexism and intimidation of teenage girls and inciting his audience as a mob against a woman he disagrees with and verbally brutalizing her daughters are pure scumbaggery. He should have been fired for that.

Regarding the Republicans, I hope these failings will make social conservatives more compassionate.

Letterman is fine; he never was the “Family Values” type. Yes, he probably cheated on his girlfriend now wife. But at least he does go around claiming he is Mr. “Family Values” like some of our politicians (can you just see the grin on all “Fake News” reporters/commentators). This has been a tough summer, for Dave, for our economy but at least he did not end up on the “Republican 2009 Summer of Love” list: Assemblyman, Michael D. Duvall (CA), Senator John Ensign (NV), Senator Paul Stanley (TN), Governor Mark Stanford (SC), Board of Ed Chair, and Kristin Maguire AKA Bridget Keeney (SC).
